France

Do you like this watch? I made it digitally.

We went to Giverny, France to visit the home museum and garden of this famous French Impressionist painter. Now run by a foundation, Monet’s Garden is one of the most beautiful gardens we have seen to-date.

I made this watch souvenir to remember our visit there.

‘If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.’–Ernest Hemingway.

My wife and I first visited Paris over 30 years ago, when we were still young.  And, unlike Asia, where old places are torn down to give way for steel and glass buildings, Paris retains its classic, everlasting charm.

When we saw this fountain at the Place de la Concorde last year,  I did not have my tripod with me. The light was fading. I wanted to freeze the water spray. I knew I had to shoot at a very slow speed. I used my wife’s shoulder as support and gently pressed the shutter. When I saw the replay in my camera, I was pleased that the camera shake was hardly noticeable. Using curves, contrast and colour balance, I was able to enhance the richness of the original image.
